ABOUT

Dr. Thea Schoeman is a Senior Lecturer in Geography & Environmental Management at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, since 2002. She holds a PhD in Environmental Management from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) with specialization in waste minimization. Her research focuses on the informal sector in waste management and recycling behaviour. Her most recent research has e-waste as focus and includes the volume of e-waste in households, e-waste recycling behaviour, the role of waste pickers in e-waste and the training of waste pickers in the repair of e-waste. She is the principal investigator of the research project WEEE Transform – Training of the informal sector and household participation in the e-waste sector funded by the South African Department of Science and Innovation as part of the Waste RDI Roadmap. Before joining UJ she was a lecturer at Vista University.
